MSBA committee member Peter Norris of Network Yacht Brokers has today been notified that HMRC has updated Notice 8 regarding rules on reporting required from 1 January 2022 for outward journeys to and inward journeys from EU countries. As Chairman of the Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents (ABYA) Peter has assisted HMRC in drafting the notice.
Please make sure your club or organisation is represented at the MSBA Annual General Meeting at Rochester Cruising Club, 10 Esplanade, ME1 1QN on 30 November 2021 at 6.30 for 7pm, followed by a Business Meeting.
At the AGM, there will be the election of officers for the MSBA committee. Please consider volunteering for the committee as there are vacancies.
As this is the last meeting of the year before Christmas, a buffet will be provided free of charge and there is a bar in the clubhouse.
If you didn’t receive the agenda and minutes by email please contact info@msba.org.uk. We look forward to seeing you there.
Adam Taylor of Medway Council says, “We had an excellent response from River Medway users to our request for retrieving lost life rings, in particular the ones trapped under Sun Pier. Sincerest thanks to Pete, Rob, John, Tony and the Maritime Volunteer Service. Each lost life ring costs taxpayers £50 and we are grateful for your help.”
Kelly Tolhurst MP (MSBA Patron) often swam in the Medway, not always intentionally. She speaks passionately for control of sewage discharges to our tidal waters.
The Cruising Association Kent Section invites you to a Zoom webinar at 7pm on Thursday 11 November, 2021 – Managing Navigational Safety on the tidal Thames by David Allsop, Assistant Harbour Master, Port of London Authority. The Port of London, comprising the tidal Thames from Teddington to the Outer Limits, is the UK’s busiest port for commercial shipping. Managing the safety of navigation for vessels of all types and sizes is a constant challenge. This presentation will explore the approach taken and challenges faced.
It will start at 19.00 prompt and will last about one hour. Please click the link below to join the webinar:
This year’s RYA Affiliated Clubs Conferences will be exploring the theme of ‘planning for a successful future’. Whether your club has been able to capitalise on the staycation trend or is struggling to resume activities, this is the event to help you move forward. These conferences are ideal for anyone involved in managing your club or its activities: flag officers, committee members, staff and volunteers.
These events also include a programme of club development sessions led by experts that will explore the following areas:
How can we recruit and retain more volunteers?
How can we develop or replace our facility?
How can we recruit and retain more members and participants?
What advice is there for the governance and legal challenges our club is facing?
All the events will be free to delegates from RYA Affiliated Clubs.
London & South East: 21 November 2021 – New Line Learning Academy, Boughton Lane, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 9QL
There will also be an Online Conference on Monday 8 November, 7.30 – 9.30pm. However, the content will be available for a month after the event, so you can catch up at a time to suit you to watch a recording.
Dear River users, we have several life rings tangled up under Sun Pier which need retrieving. Owing to limited budgets and lack of a boat, we’re unable to get to them and we’re hoping someone might be able to help please?
The life rings cost us £50 a time, every time some unhelpful person decides to throw them over the side.
If anyone can get them, please let me know (adam.taylor@medway.gov.uk) and I can arrange for them to be collected from wherever you are.
