Keep 800 yards NW of Montgomery wreck buoys

To clarify the previous article on our website, Peel Ports Notice to Mariners No 20 of 2018 warns us to stay at least 4 cables (approx 800 yards) to the north west of the restricted area marked by the yellow danger buoys around the Montomery wreck until 1st June 2019 (i.e. next year), as shown on this chartlet. The red star shows the location of the oceanographic recording equipment, which is only marked by three small red floats.

Clubs and organisations which hold races and other events that go round the wreck, such as the Admiral’s Cruise, may need to find an alternative turning mark.

Avoid Montgomery wreck

From 23 May 2018 to 1June 2019 oceanographic recording equipment will be placed on the seabed just NW of the Wreck Exclusion Zone.

The equipment consists of a seabed Lander marked by 3 red buoys and deployed NW of the Wreck Exclusion Zone for the entire period.

Mariners are requested to keep a minimum of 4 cables clear of the exclusion zone marked by the permanent yellow buoys.

Medway River Festival, 16 June

Medway Council are pleased to be hosting the River Festival 2018 in conjunction with The Historic Dockyard Chatham. This year it will be taking place within the Historic Dockyard Chatham and all land based activities need to be booked with them using the form attached. Due to the needs of exhibition space Medway Council are pleased to offer a marquee where necessary – please make sure this is indicated on the form.

Medway River Festival, 16 June 2018

This year the festival will take place at Chatham Historic Dockyard, which is celebrating its 400th anniversary by offering free access to everyone on 16 June. There will be “have-a-go” water activities on the Mast Pond and other activities on the river which you can watch from the area between HMS Gannet and the submarine HMS Ocelot. Other historic vessels will be open for visitors at the east end of Basin 1 (Chatham Maritime Marina) and there will be a Parade of Sail featuring historic vessels in the afternoon. High tide is at 3.30pm.

If any local boating clubs and organisations would like a stall at the Dockyard, please email info@msba.org.uk and we will pass on your request. We are hoping that the Council will provide tables and gazebos but this is to be confirmed.

Look out for Stolen Dinghy and Outboard

We have heard of more thefts recently from boats on the Medway. The latest is a report from Chrissie Peters of Segas SC:

“Our dinghy and outboard was stolen during the night while we were on board our boat. Please be aware there are thieves operating on the Medway.  The dinghy is a 12 foot dark green plastic Pioner tender, which we would love back if anyone sees it. The outboard is a Tohatsu 6hp, we don’t expect we will see it again. Stolen from moorings opposite Segas and Gillingham Strand, on Hoo side.
Please look out for the dinghy.”

This is similar to a theft a year ago from the HNYC moorings, when the dinghy was found abandoned without the motor. It seems many of these thefts are not reported to the police, so please email us at info@msba.org.uk with any information.
