The voice of boating on the tidal Medway and Swale
Rowing is a great way to enjoy the river and stay fit. If you are 18 or over, come and try rowing at Medway Towns Rowing Club’s open day on Sunday 14 July.
The Medway has been the nursery for famous sailors from Drake, Adams and even Nelson. Several of our local sailing/yacht clubs have intrepid solo yachtsmen who think nothing of crossing oceans in boats that many would nowadays consider barely suitable for a Channel crossing. As part of the Jester Challenge, two members of Hoo Ness Yacht Club have just completed crossings from Plymouth to Baltimore in South-West Ireland: Tom Fisher in his Elizabethan 33 “Arctic Smoke” and Bernie Branfield in his Achilles 24 “Mischief”.
Please note that the next MSBA business meeting will be held at Conyer Cruising Club at Swale Marina (postcode ME9 9HN) on Tuesday 25th June 2019 at 7pm. We try to ensure that at least one of our business meetings each year is in the Swale area. Please ensure that your organisation is represented at the meeting.
Local boating clubs are invited to accompany the Admiral of the Medway (the Mayor) on this annual two-day cruise hosted by Rochester Cruising Club. There will be a briefing for interested skippers at the club on Wednesday 26 June. An informative article by Fred Trice about this unique event can be found here.
Some of the historic vessels in today’s sail past, plus the impressive Switzer Meridian fire tug which danced like a ballerina.
