New Marina Planned at Medway Council Offices

Medway Council Marina

  1. Interesting. There were moorings in the river here for decades. We used to use them regularly and Sun Pier to stock up on stores from the handily placed Sainsbury’s store. Believe most of the buoys have ‘trotted off’ now!
I still think, and this has been a long standing belief, that Rochester, or the river, needs a short stay facility round the corner, perhaps at the old Strood Pier – which has close access to Rochester (& Strood: there are things to see here too).
The plans are a start …
Will this mean that some of the very vacant buoy trots will be removed from the river?

  2. Nick, there are still some free river moorings in Rats Bay, just downstream of Sun Pier. I think there are 8 fore-and-aft and 3 swinging moorings, belonging to Peel Ports but freely available. There’s nothing to stop visitors using them and coming ashore via Sun Pier, which has a dinghy rack. From the map, I think these moorings are just outside the proposed marina site.
