Medway Towns Rowing Club

Medway Towns Rowing Club was formed in 1958 when Medway Rowing Club and the club then known as Chatham and Gillingham Rowing Club, amalgamated.  The oldest of these two organisations was Medway Rowing Club which was formed in 1865 and from which the present Club takes its establishment year. However, the distinction of being the oldest rowing club formed on the Medway is not ours.  It belongs to the Royal Engineers whose  famous Yacht Club with its rowing section, along with Medway Rowing Club and Chatham Rowing Club, formed a triple rivalry for honours in the early regattas that lasted into the 1950’s. After the Second World War, the Royal Engineers Rowing Club went on to great achievements but they are no longer based locally.
