Kentish Sail Association

The Kentish Sail Association was established in 1973 to promote and run an annual Swale Smack and Sailing Barge Match. Since then it has organised 46 regattas that take place each year in August in the East Swale. These days it attracts some seventy-plus traditional craft of all sizes as well as a large armada of spectators; the races are a magnificent sight. In addition, the Association aims to promote the skills needed to handle and preserve these craft, and assists young people to experience days afloat.

A newsletter, On the Mud, is published twice a year and a number of social events are organised for members. The Association welcomes new members (annual fee £15, or £20 to include a partner) who are interested in the traditional boat scene, whether or not they own their own craft, and it can help to introduce them to a network of like-minded individuals and organisations involved in this sphere of maritime activity.
