RYA Virtual Cruising Conference, 21 March 2021

Bookings for this year’s RYA Cruising Conference are now open!  The online event has a packed schedule to interest regular and novice cruisers alike. Topics will include real-life stories from fellow cruisers, as well as practical cruising advice from the RYA experts and all the latest updates on travelling around the EU.

Places are free for RYA Members and just £10 for non-members. Tickets will allow you access to not only the live speaker sessions but also to the exhibition area where you will be able to visit virtual stands and chat with experts. You can also learn more about the current trends in the cruising world by watching the pre-recorded presentations and videos.

Vacancy for Chief Instructor at Medway YC

Medway Yacht Club is looking for an RYA Senior Instructor to take on the Chief Instructor role on a full time, permanent basis. The role requires a flexible approach with the successful candidate working a minimum of 37 hour contract over weekends, evenings and bank holidays as required. Typical working week Wednesday – Sunday.

The position is designed to lead and manage the existing Club Sailing groups: Junior, Youth, Adults, Royal Engineers, NAS school all operating from March to November with Winter Training Sessions mostly for the Youth team. The position will also involve delivering Powerboat, Stand Up Paddle-boarding, shore-based courses as well as Team Building days. The successful applicant will lead on training at the Club and report to the Commodore and Flag Officers. The applicant will work closely with the other employees and volunteers.

Virtual Regatta (eSailing) Inshore provides players with an opportunity to race against friends, fellow sailors and real-world Olympic champions. All UK players will automatically be entered into the exclusive GBR eSailing National Championship, racing the same challenges, seasons and playoffs as the eSailing World Championship and ranking both nationally and globally.

UPDATE: The free 12 month VIP pass for clubs was closed on 1 April.

World Champion Laser sailor visits Medway YC

Lijia Xu holds members spellbound at Medway YC.

On Saturday, Lijia (“Lily”) Xu with her coach Jon Emmett conducted a boot camp and gave talks at Medway Yacht Club. Among her many achievements, Lily won a gold medal in the Laser Radial class at the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she was the flag bearer for China at the closing ceremony.

Sign up now for RYA Discover Sailing (was PTBO) 2020

The RYA has renamed its excellent annual Push The Boat Out campaign to “Discover Sailing” even though it encompasses all kinds of boating. To encourage newcomers into boating, the RYA puts a lot of resources into supporting clubs’ Open Days. To benefit from the RYA’s marketing support, your club must sign up by 7 February (midday) for April and May taster sessions, and by 27 April (midday) for June to September sessions.

RYA Cruising/Racing Conference, Eastbourne,12 Jan 2020

This bi-annual cruising/racing conference is aimed at the motor and sailing yacht fraternity within the RYA London and SE region and is for RYA personal members, and members of RYA affiliated clubs and organisations (including the MSBA) as well as members of stakeholder organisations in the region.

It aims to provide interesting and cutting-edge talks and workshops to inspire sailors for the upcoming season, providing a forum for networking and discussion on topical issues. The event schedule can be viewed here.
