Exceptional High Tides Warning

Peel Ports have issued a Notice to Mariners regarding the highest tidal predictions of the natural 19 year astronomical cycle. There will be a number of exceptionally high (and low) tides during the period of September 2015 to January 2016, the most notable high tides being:

  • 27th – 30th September 2015
  • 27th – 30th October 2015
  • 25th – 27th December 2015
  • 11th – 14th January 2016

In addition to the exceptional high tide levels there will be increased tidal flows.

  1. I wonder if this will affect the SS Richard Montgomery wreck in an adverse way.
That is apart from the fact that the tethers on the small marker buoys circling the wreck appear to be too short and will disappear under the surface at the highest tide, waiting for that accident to happen. It is only a matter of time.

    1. These predicted tides are only slightly higher than the usual big autumnal spring tides. In fact we had just such a big tide (6.6m at Chatham) already at the beginning of this month and no-one commented.
