Peel Ports list of 2015 River Events

A Notice to Mariners lists boating events of which Peel Ports have been notified:  NtoM No 13 of 2015 – River Events

Organisers of Events are reminded of Medway Ports River Byelaw 1991, No. 53, Boat Races and Regattas. The Organiser of any boat race, regatta public procession or similar event when a number of vessels are expected to assemble on the waters of the Port or Medway approach area are required to give not less than 28 days’ notice of an Event to Peel Ports Medway.

Tom Sims

It is with great sadness that we announce that Tom Sims, a long-standing member of the MYA/MSBA committee, died on 24th March. A master mariner and member of Wilsonian SC, Tom was a driving force behind the MYA Dinghy Regatta and Hoo Freezer. More information will be given when available.

UPDATE: Tom’s funeral will be on 22 April at 10:30 at Beckenham Crematorium.

Three new members and two new partners

At yesterday’s business meeting, held at the Kent Boat and Ski Club, the MSBA welcomed three new members:

The British Marine Federation Kent & Sussex is now a partner of the MSBA, having generously helped to sponsor the recent conference.

Also we are now partners with the Medway River Users Assocation, who represent boaters and other river users on the non-tidal Medway.

First Aid course at RCPYC, 28 March

FIRST AID course at the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club, Dover with its spectacular views over the harbour. The course will be run by Dr Bob Hadley, a CA member who sails out of Dover. You will need the latest edition of the First Aid Manual, which can be bought on line for £4.75. The course will run from 9am to 5pm with tea and coffee on arrival and also in the afternoon. Peel Ports announces replacement for Deputy Harbour Master

At the recent MSBA/RYA conference, Dave Newbury, Senior Manager of Marine Operations, announced that Ian Clarke will starting as Marine Manager on 18th May. Ian has strong connections to the commercial shipping and leisure boating fraternities, and has volunteered on TS Royalist and PS Waverley. Max Taylor, who was Deputy Harbour Master, is also a Medway Pilot (and yachtsman) but will remain as a part-time member of the marine management team at Sheerness.
